The inauguration committee on security did not encounter any major problems in providing security for off-island dignitaries and in securing the inauguration sites, according to Rep. Claudio K. Norita, a former police major.

Norita, chairman for the security committee, told the Saipan Tribune during Monday’s inaugurations that all the VIPS and delegates from off-island came in through Continental, Northwest, or via chartered airplane.

Security was immediately afforded to the VIPs and dignitaries. Some were given designated drivers, Norita said.

He said security personnel were also detailed to the House speaker, Senate president and other local dignitaries.

“No problem at all,” the chairman said.

Even though there were a lot of delegates and investors from the Philippines, Guam, Palau, Yap, Chuuk, Japan, Korea and the U.S. mainland, the committee did not run out of security personnel.

Norita said they have enough manpower because they sought help from the Department of Public Safety, Customs, and Fish and Wildlife.

The Department of Public Works, he said, also sent some of its regular employees to assist the committee in driving some guests.

“Most of them came to us and help us out after 4:30pm. The issue really was not a concern. We didn’t go out and wipe out an agency. We took some from DPS, some from Customs, some from Fish and Wildlife and some from CPA ports,” he added.
