Tinian gearing up for Little League
With the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field taking on a whole new look, meetings held for youth athletics, and kids taking their swings in local batting cages, it is almost time for the start of the Little League baseball program.
While the Saipan Little League Baseball Association is gearing up for another successful season of runs, hits, and errors, it isn’t the only game in town, as the kids across the channel are gearing up for their favorite game as well.
The Tinian Little League Baseball Association is doing its share to prepare for the upcoming season by reminding all coaches and managers to furnish their rosters and waivers a week from today on Thursday, Jan. 19.
While the youngsters of the Little League have been taking their cuts for some time, the 2006 season will mark the first time that Tinian will have a Junior League, and they plan to do more in the future.
“Everybody’s excited down here. Hopefully next year we will be opening up the Senior League and Big in the following year,” said TLLBA player agent/DCCA-Tinian official Prince C. Monkeya.
According to Monkeya, the first-year Juniors are looking to compete in a three-team league, while the youngest players are aiming for four squads. Now that some of the older kids will get an opportunity to playball for another couple of years, it’s up to the organizers to get all of the paperwork and related materials reviewed in time for opening day on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The TLLBA is looking to the public to help them offer the kids a chance on the diamonds by purchasing tickets for their annual Breakfast Fundraiser on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Much like in past years, the TLLBA will not only serve up the morning chow, but they will also deliver it to those who chip in to help.
To obtain tickets for the fund raiser or for more information about the TLLBA, contact league president Ike Aquiningoc by calling 433-0393, Monkeya at 287-0028, or any of the board members on Tinian.
