The Superior Court has imposed a $1,000 cash bail each on a couple who were arrested Tuesday afternoon for leaving their four-year-old son unattended so they could play poker.

Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja set the preliminary hearing on Jan. 27 for defendants Keteman Mongu Hauk, 51, and Marcelly Dopich, 37.

Hauk and Dopich were charged with child neglect.

According to Detective Patrick Earl Maanao, the Department of Public Safety received a call about a child neglect case on Tuesday at 5:27pm. When a police officer responded to JC Poker in Dandan, he found the child standing at the outer edge of the southbound lane of the highway.

The boy was barefoot, and was wearing a shirt and short pants.

When the officer asked what he was doing in the place, the boy told him he was waiting inside the car for his parents who were playing poker.

The officer brought the child inside the poker arcade where he pointed out his parents.

Hauk was in front of one of the poker machines. Dopich was standing behind him. At that time, the couple were the only customers inside, police said.

Police learned that Hauk was the one playing poker. The wife later went inside to watch him play.

After about 20 to 30 minutes, the police arrived with the child.
