A construction worker who allegedly overstayed in the CNMI for over four years was arrested on Thursday night.

Court records show that authorities served Marcelino S. Carlos Jr. the arrest warrant in Koblerville at 8:30pm.

Carlos was brought before Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona yesterday morning for a bail hearing.

Manglona imposed a $1,000 cash bail for Carlos’ temporary liberty and ordered the respondent to appear in court for a status conference on Jan. 26.

Immigration inspector Colin R. Sablan stated in court papers that Carlos entered the CNMI after being issued a nonresident worker’s entry permit on Nov. 30, 2000, which expired on Nov. 28, 2001.

Sablan said the respondent has no pending labor case and no pending application for employment.

Labor records indicate that Carlos used to work with the North Pacific Builders Inc. as a construction worker. He arrived on Saipan in 1995. (Ferdie de la Torre)
