San Nicolas wants his resident directors to get more involved
Acting Department of Labor Secretary Gil M. San Nicolas wants to maintain open communications with the Labor offices on Tinian and Rota.
“My plan is to work more closely with the resident directors of Labor of Rota and Tinian. In the past, I wouldn’t probably say that they’ve been neglected, but the communication was not frequent or free flowing,” San Nicolas told the Saipan Tribune.
He said what he intends to do is to get the resident directors for the two islands more involved in what is happening and what decisions are being made on Saipan.
“We consider this department the headquarters. So obviously we need to constantly inform them whatever decisions or changes are being been made here,” the acting secretary said.
“I would be inviting them periodically to meet with us in the manager meetings. And we may visit them as well,” he added.
San Nicolas also hinted of his plan, in line with the administration’s business-friendly approach, to work with the Legislature to streamline the requirements of the labor permit applications at the processing sections.
“There’s a lot of requirements that are statutorily required which we feel we don’t need at the processing section to process the permits; we, however, want to maintain them under the enforcement section,” he said.
