Police arrested on Friday four taxi drivers who allegedly beat up two fellow taxi drivers at the taxi staging area of the Saipan World Resort Hotel in Susupe.

Sakline Golam, Rahaman Ziaur, Durbar Mallik, and Alam MD Manjurull were brought to the Superior Court yesterday for a bail hearing.

Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja imposed a $5,000-cash bail each for the defendants. The preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 30.

According to court papers filed by police, the beating happened on Nov. 18, 2005 at 8pm.

Police said the first victim, Bhuiyan Md. Nurul Islam sustained a swollen face.

The other victim, Hossain Kabir, received bruises to the rib cage and other parts of the body.

Police said the victims were waiting for customers when the four suspects arrived on board a vehicle.

Three of the suspects started beating up the victims. The fourth only watched the beating.

When Kabir screamed, the suspects fled.

After a few minutes, the suspects allegedly went back to the hotel and threatened another taxi driver for calling the police.
