Chicago boxing club to fight in Saipan event
Local boxing promoter Al Taitano is currently in communication with a Chicago-based club that will have its fighters compete in a boxing event on Saipan.
In an interview, Taitano disclosed that the Chicago Golden Glove Boxing Club would be sending fighters to Saipan either on May or June.
Fighters from the club will be joined by boxers from Guam and the CNMI, and Taitano is calling on all interested amateur boxers to register with him.
“We’re looking at this being a big event, especially since we got fighters from Chicago that are coming,” Taitano said.
Taitano said Steven Brumstein of the Chicago Golden Glove Boxing Club had heard of boxing in the CNMI and contacted the local promoter in hopes of organizing an event with his boxers.
“He is very interested and he loves boxing and enjoys it and is looking forward to it,” Taitano said.
Taitano said he is also in communication with Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan official Cuki Alvarez and will possibly include no holds barred fights as part of the boxing event.
“It will just make it a lot more exciting for everyone that watches. They’ll get to see different types of arts,” he said.
Taitano added that organizers of the event are also looking at possibly holding another event as part of the Tinian Fiesta celebration.
Interested fighters can contact Taitano at 898-3603, 234-1734, or 322-0456.
A venue for training will be announced soon.
