It’s a good thing that the centerfield scoreboard at Tan Ge Field is out of commission because arriving planes would have been lured away from the glide slope by the amount of light produced from the high-end double-digit run totals posted by first place Bomsoro and the third place Hitters Tuesday night.

Bomsoro (7-1) bombed away on the unsuspecting Lady-8ers, as the red clad ladies hammered out 43 runs in a time-restricted four-inning contest against two tallies from the Tanapag nine in continuation of the Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League.

Jovie Omar was the queen of her domain and she ruled with an iron fist that delivered crafty pitching and power hitting. The “Big O” allowed just eight runs off of seven hits and picked up a strikeout in the batter friendly league and continued her domination with a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the plate.

Omar smacked three singles, a double, two triples, and drove in five runs on the night, while shortstop Joyce Taro equaled the 6-for-6 mark with a string of five singles and a double that drove in four runs. Taro was not the only big potato with eyes for the ball, as centerfielder Dolores Rangamar went 4-for-5 with a single, two doubles, and a triple for a team-high seven runs batted in.

Bomsoro never trailed in the game as the first place ladies scored seven runs in the top of the first and never looked back. They added seven more in the top of the second, and piled on 14 in the third to take a 28-2 lead.

Tanapag (2-8) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the innings, but Bomsoro made a mockery of the mockery by pounding out 15 runs in the fourth to put the finishing touches on a night of blight.

Hitters 66, Rookies 2

The Sai-Steve Rookies have seen better days at the ballpark than the one they had on Tuesday, as they were repeatedly beaten by the second place Hitters until the press box announcer nearly lost his voice calling in all of the runs as they crossed the plate.

Angela Ngirbedul was en fuego on Tuesday night, as the third baseman rocked an SSA record 8-for-8 outing at the plate with five singles, a double, and two inside the park homeruns.

Ngirbedul drove in 10 runs and received a round of applause from both dugouts and the spectators while standing on first base following her final hit of the night. While she was outstanding, the Hitters also got power from their second baseman Rose Taman, who went 6-for-6 with a single, three doubles, and two inside the park round trippers for eight runs batted in.

The mighty infielders continued their hit parade as shortstop Thelma Mizer went 7-for-8 with four singles, a double, and a pair of inside-the-park homeruns for eight ribbies, while first baseman Pauline Tudela smacked four singles and two doubles to finish 6-for-8 with a pair of runs batted in.

The Hitters more or less ended the game early with a 13 run outburst in the top of the first inning, but they followed with a dozen in the second and six in the third for an unsightly 31-0 lead. Despite trailing by a ton, the Rookies provided plenty of excitement for all of the fans and their opponents as they pulled off some plays that displayed the fruits of their labor on the training field.

The Hitters continued their scoring drive in the fourth with 13 runs, but their 22-run explosion seemed as endless as last year’s earthquake that rocked the Commonwealth. The game’s redeeming quality was the two runs scored by the Rookies in the bottom of the fifth, as the girls on both sides of the field laughed as the runners crossed the plate.

Mix-A-Lot 14, Pacific Amigas 7

The women’s third place team kept pace with Bomsoro and the Hitters as Mix-A-Lot doubled up on the Pacific Amigas, 14-7, to pull to within one game of second place at 6-2.

Pauline Camacho came to Tan Ge with the big stick as she belted out a double, a triple, and a three-run inside-the-park homer to finish the night 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Camacho wasn’t the only free swinger, as Tonia Cepeda went 3-for-4 with a pair of base knocks, a double and two ribbies, and first baseman Jenny Palacios went 3-for-4 with two singles, a triple, and drove in a run.

After trailing 5-2 through two and a half, Mix-A-Lot turned on the offense and took the lead in the bottom of the third with a four run burst, 6-5. Everything else was gravy, as the Mix poured on three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and their final three in the sixth to take a 14-6 advantage.

The loss sent the Amigas to 3-7 land, and just a game ahead of the Lady-8ers for second last, but they have shown signs of brilliance on the field when they want to. It’s just a matter of whether they can stay focused in the close ones.
