Trench Tech to send three fighters to Fury VI
Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan will be represented by three fighters in Fury VI.
Trench Tech official Cuki Alvarez said in a recent interview that he, along with young gun Kelvin Fitial and Jason Tarkong, will represent Saipan in the sixth edition of Fury this April on Guam.
The three recently returned from Guam after Alvarez and Tarkong served as cornermen for Fitial, who fought Frank Manglona of Spike 22 at the University of Guam Fieldhouse.
“Oh yeah, we’re going back and this time the three of us will fight,” Alvarez said, citing that much work in terms of training will be done to prepare for the fights.
Alvarez already has two Fury bouts under his belt. He fought in an exhibition bout in Fury III: Fighting Islands on Saipan last April and made his pro fight debut in Fury V: Collision on Guam last December. Alvarez won both fights.
In Fury IV, Alvarez fought and defeated Guam’s Billy Ray Ada, a well-known street brawler with boxing and wrestling backgrounds.
Alvarez brought his opponent down to the mat by perfectly executing a clean double leg take down. He then mounted his opponent and threw a barrage of left and rights to Ada’s head and face, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight about 2:43 into the first round.
In Fury III, Alvarez took center stage in a grappling exhibition match against Guam’s Joey Lopez at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. The fight quickly went to the ground, where Alvarez got Lopez to tap out with a mount choke in the first round.
For his part, Fitial made his pro debut at Fury V against Manglona, a three-year veteran of the sport. Despite having to go through a vigorous workout which resulted in Fitial losing 14 pounds in four hours, the mean machine was able to take Manglona down to the ground and landed some kicks to the face. He was able to give Manglona a run for his money before the lack of experience and fatigue got the best of him.
Tarkong and Fitial fought against each other in the semi-main event of Trench Warz: Fight Night last November, with Fitial coming out strong and landing strong punches. Tarkong was able to counter attack and brought Fitial to the ground where he perfectly executed a rear-naked choke for the win.
Before leaving for Fury VI, though, Tarkong will fight in a little over a week as he battles Dave Kapileo in the main event of Trench Warz: Caged In.
