Masons, radio group lead ‘Trash-a-Thon’
Emon Lodge No. 179, a local Masonic Lodge and the MDX Amateur Radio Club, the lead organizations spearheading “CNMI JROTC – Community Services Projects,” is initiating their “Trash-A-Thon” activity this Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006.
More than 200 JROTC cadet volunteers from Kagman High, Marianas High and Southern High Schools will be picking trash on Beach Road, from the public beach in San Antonio to Paseo de Marianas in Garapan.
Painting of the parking line and bumpers of the parking lot of Ada gym and cleaning/arranging of the American Red Cross warehouse will also be undertaken simultaneously.
Assembly time will be at 7:30am at the Minachum Achdao Pavilion, which will serve as the command, coordination and communication center.
The participants will be grouped into squads and will be assigned a respective area of responsibility. Every squad will be accompanied by an MDX member, equipped with a handheld VHF radio for coordination and communication, aside from the mobile or roving coordination provided by members of this fraternity.
Besides the goal of enhancing the spirit of volunteerism among the youth that will benefit community services, participating JROTC cadets will also earn credits in this curriculum.
Supporting the cause of this endeavor includes PTI, Pacific Trading, Microl Corp. and the Mayor’s Office of Saipan. (PR)
