A cargo box of controlled substances scheduled for delivery from Hawaii to the PHI Pharmacy on Saipan has been reported missing.

Authorities are now investigating the case of the missing cargo box, which contain morphine, among other controlled substances.

PHI Pharmacy Ted Parker said the matter has been reported to the Department of Public Safety and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“There are controlled substances involved,” Parker said, adding that the whereabouts of the missing cargo has yet to be ascertained.

Investigators have yet to determine if there was theft behind the loss of the cargo.

PHI confirmed that the missing box went out from Hawaii’s airport but it was not among the cargoes it received at the Saipan International Airport, according to Parker. The pharmacy received all other boxes of drugs from Hawaii.

Parker said PHI discovered the missing box Tuesday when it received the rest of its cargoes. Since the missing box contained controlled substances, PHI had to report the matter to police and the DEA, Parker said.

“They [authorities] still haven’t tracked it [missing box] down,” Parker said yesterday afternoon.
