Fund gets four applicants for 3rd party administrator
The NMI Retirement Fund has received four proposals to administer the government’s group health insurance program.
These include proposals from existing provider, Hawaii Pacific Medical Referral, as well as Select Care which previously submitted a proposal to privatize the Fund’s group health insurance program.
The local government eventually turned down Select Care’s proposal following findings that it would result in higher costs.
Fund administrator Karl T. Reyes said yesterday that U.S.-based Aetna also submitted a proposal.
“There’s a fourth company but its application is still at the post office,” said Reyes.
The deadline for the submission of proposals is set today.
The Fund issued last month an RFP for a three-year service contract with a third party administrator.
HPMR had signed a three-year contract with the Fund in August 2001. It got extended last year pending a decision to privatize the program.
Since the privatization program was rejected, the Fund went ahead with its plan to seek another contractual service with a third party administration.
