Da Terminators receive top prize; Soriano, Chisato win
Da Terminators were recognized for dominating the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League Tuesday night, while Jerry Soriano and Ron Chisato took top honors in the awards banquet tournament at the Aliviera Sports Bar.
R.J. Mascarinas, Roman Rodriguez, Jojo Talibong, Senen Pangilinan, Frank Pangelinan, and Luis Fajardo were masters at the pool table as they led Da Terminators to an impressive 62-22 win-loss record to take top honors.
Finishing in second place were Jerry Soriano, Rowel Mariano, Nolan Cultura, Joey Lucida, Mario Diola, Nelson Pagaduan, and Ike Celis of the Round Two Hustlers, who finished just five games behind Da Terminators with a 57-27 record.
The Bud Killaz closed the season strong and surpassed USSP Fotten Palau in the final two weeks to secure third place as Peter Pereda, Vidal Camacho, bill Villagomez, Henry Sasaki, Jackie Sasaki, Larry Briones, Cristy Noche, and Roland Cruz pulled together down the stretch.
Also grabbing a fair share of the spotlight were players of the Jewell Night Shooters, who won the Sportsmanship Award. Members of the team include Serge Tibudan, Alex Bricia, Melchor Valiente, Larry Pascual, Ariel Orijuela, Joey Pacheco, Jovanie Jadera, and Gary Esconde. The team finished with a 32-46 record.
For his part, Rick Rengiil of USSP Fotten Palau was crowned as the league’s most valuable player after leading the league with 22 wins. His team finished with a 46-38 record.
Meanwhile, SBA held a single-elimination tournament the evening of the banquet, with Soriano and Ron Chisato joining forces to take the first place trophy and $100. The two defeated Vidal Camacho and Chris Chlarson, who pocketed $60 in a second place finish.
Soriano and Chisato first had to defeat Senen Pangilinan and Ed Suzuki, then advanced to the finals with a win over Henry Sasaki and Bern Ikeda.
Camacho and Chlarson’s road to the finals featured a victory over Mel Valiente and Chris Guerrero and a semifinal win over Roman Rodriguez and Jerry Benavente.
