The Senate has adopted a resolution asking the Commonwealth Ports Authority to exempt government employees stationed at the ports from paying parking fees.

Senate Joint Resolution 15-4 notes that the cost of parking is burdensome to affected employees, particularly those from the Division of Immigration, Division of Customs, and Division of Quarantine assigned at the Saipan International Airport and the Port of Saipan.

“The cost of parking…is an added expense that other Commonwealth government employees do not have to pay because they are afforded free parking at their worksite,” read a portion of the resolution authored by Senate Vice President Pete P. Reyes.

CPA, in an effort to generate revenues, implements paid vehicle parking at Saipan’s airport and seaport. The parking fee is $2 per hour.

Services performed by the affected employees, according to the resolution, “directly bear on the Commonwealth’s ability to control immigration, customs and quarantine and the [CPA’s] realization of operational revenues.”
