Fun run this Saturday as Micro Games fundraiser
With the ball rolling on turbo mode as preparations for the 6th Micronesian Games continue, a golden opportunity to showcase support for the hosting of the quadrennial event is at hand as the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee will hold a 5K Fun Run fundraiser this Saturday.
The run will begin at 8am at the American Memorial Park, and all interested participants are required to pay a fee of $10.
The fee will be put to good use as proceeds will benefit the organizing of the Games.
All teams and athletes prepping for competing in the Games, as well as everyone interested in supporting the event, are encouraged to take part in the event,
The MGOC recently received a boost to its efforts to welcome visiting delegations as the Society of Human Resource Managers donated $500 Thursday afternoon during their luncheon at the Pacific Islands Club.
One of the major issues that remain is the sponsorship and the different levels that a company or individual will be able to support the Games. While the details have not yet been released, it appears that the news will come soon as the final arrangements are near completion.
The push for volunteers is also still ongoing.
Official forms for sponsorship will be available soon, and all interested volunteers can get involved by emailing volunteers committee chair Frances Sablan at efsablan@yahoo.com or by calling 234-3462.
The Micronesian Games will be held from June 23 to July 3 on Saipan, with about 1,200-1,500 athletes and officials from around the region expected to take part.
The Games was supposed to be hosted by Yap, however, sports facilities in the state were damaged by typhoons, which resulted in the Micronesian Games Council putting the quadrennial event up for grabs.
CNMI jumped at the opportunity after learning of the availability during last year’s South Pacific Mini Games in Palau, and were granted the Games.
