Continental Micronesia will begin daily, non-stop service between Osaka and Guam for a two-month period during peak Japanese travel, declaring the move as part of efforts to enhance tourism in the region.

The new service will begin on July 20 and operate daily through Sept. 26. Continental will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with seating capacity of 155 for the service.

Continental Micronesia president Mark A. Erwin assured that the company remains committed to bring in more tourists to the region.

“Continental Micronesia continues to review market capacity growth opportunities predicated on customer demand,” Erwin said. “And we are pleased to provide this increased service for the island’s tourism industry.”

With the addition of the Osaka service, Continental will serve nine cities in Japan, more than those serviced by other U.S. airline.

Continental said it has a certificate route authority for Osaka-Guam. The daily flights will leave Guam at 7:15am and arrive in Osaka at around 9:55am. The flights from Osaka will leave at 11am and arrive on Guam at approximately 3:30pm.

Meanwhile, Continental Micronesia staff vice president for sales and marketing Walter Dias belied reports that the airline will cease B737-800 jet service between Saipan and Guam.

The B737 flights from Saipan to Guam leave the Saipan International Airport at 5:15am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Flights from Guam to Saipan leave the A.B. Won Pat International Airport at 4:50pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Continental’s partner, Cape Air, also services Saipan, Rota and Guam.

As one of the largest airline companies in the world, Continental Airlines boasts of its award-winning service and corporate culture. For the third consecutive year, Fortune magazine named Continental as the “No. 1 Most Admired Global Airline” on its 2006 list of most admired global companies. The publication also named Continental as the No.1 airline in its 2006 America’s Most Admired airline industry list.
