One reason why the Pirates are currently sitting on top of the Junior League is because the team consists of sluggers that come through with hits.

It is no surprise that a member of the Pirates squad leads the league in hitting as Donavan George has so far been a nightmare for opposing pitchers. The youngster, who also has solid stuff on the mound, currently sports a perfect batting average as he has connected for eight hits in eight at bats for a 1.000 average. He also leads the league with six runs scored and three triples, and also tops all players with five runs batted in.

Right behind George is teammate Josh Jones, who sports a .500 batting average after going 3-for-6 this season, while teammate Eric Tenorio sits in the No. 3 spot with a .429 batting average. Like his aforementioned teammates, Tenorio has had an impressive start to the season as he has hit safely in three of his seven chances. He is also second in the league with five runs, and is tied for the league lead with a double.

The No. 4 hitter also belongs to the Pirates family as Alex Benavente has gone 2-for-7 for a .286 average, tying him with Ignacio Aldan of the Comets. Benavente has also showcased his power as he has the league’s only home run so far and is tied for second with four RBIs. Aldan is also tied for the league lead in doubles. Rounding up the hitters are Cameron Ser Nicholas and Eli Augenbaugh of the Comets, who are both hitting .167 with a hit in six at bats.

Meanwhile, Ofero Taitano ranks third in the runs department with four and is also tied for the league lead in doubles. Nokkie Lizama is also tied for second in the RBI category with four.

Augenbaugh currently leads the league with a 5.51 earned run average after allowing five runs in 6.1 innings of play, while Juan Iguel follows with a 7.00 ERA after giving up six runs in six innings.

Iguel leads the strikeout department after fanning nine players, while Jonathan Salas and George are tied in second with six strikeouts. Phillip Manalo and Tom Agulto round up the top pitchers with five strikeouts.
