GUAM—Guam Racing Federation will host the biggest racing event ever held on Guam—2006 Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend—on April 8 and 9 at the Guam Raceway Park in Yigo.

Smokin’ Wheels is Guam’s longest running, and biggest motorsports event with international participation and coverage featuring racers and media from Japan, the U.S. mainland, Guam and the CNMI.

This year, GRF is taking Smokin’ Wheels to a whole new level with eight different motorsports competitions all jammed into one action-packed racing weekend.

Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend is expected to draw over 5,000 race fans to the multi-track facility located on the Back Road to Andersen.

Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend will feature the following competitions: Pro Off-Road Enduro Main Event; Mud Drags; Rock Crawling; Drag Racing; Autocross; Motorcycle Enduro; ATV Racing; and Car Crusher.

Pro trucks and buggies from the U.S., Japan, and Guam will battle it out for a win in the Smokin’ Wheels Off Road Main Event—an internationally recognized race that has been televised worldwide on networks such as ESPN.

This year, Rick Johnson and his Triple J Ford Truck will have to defend against some very tough competition, including Japan’s No. 1 racer Ikuo Hanawa in his 800hp Trophy Truck, and local racers Henry Simpson and Marcus Guererro in their Pro Buggies.

Smokin’ Wheels will also include several new attractions, many of which are a first for Guam. The Miller Rock and Crawl Concert, for starters, will feature live rock music performed during the Rock Crawling Competition.

Mud Drags, on the other hand, will showcase Guam’s toughest 4X4’s drag race side by side through a mud pit.

Performance Alley with Guam’s top auto and motorcycle dealers, for its part, will give customers an opportunity to purchase a vehicle at Smokin’ Wheels and get $1,000 of free Shell V Power (Motorcycle purchases get $500 of free gas)

Vendor booths with food, drinks and more; plus thousands of dollars give-a-ways are also featured during Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend

“This year we wanted to showcase all the different motorsports that the Guam Raceway Park is home to in one weekend. We invite everyone bring the whole family down to enjoy all the racing, plus all the other attractions we have planned,” said Guam Raceway Park general manager Henry Simpson.

Admission for the Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend is $10 for adults; children under 12 are free.

“Of course, Smokin’ Wheels wouldn’t be possible without the support of our great sponsors and all the hard work from all the racing clubs,” said Simpson. (PR)
