Mobil raises gas prices
Mobil gas stations yesterday implemented a gas price hike following a similar move by S
hell on Thursday last week.
Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc. did not issue a media announcement about the price adjustment but a check at Mobil gas stations on Saipan showed higher gas prices.
Mobil reportedly implemented adjusted pump prices by 6 cents a gallon. The move reportedly took effect early yesterday morning.
Mobil now sells gasoline by as much as $3.379 per gallon, particularly for its super unleaded product at full-serve rate. This product sells at $3.219 per gallon at self-serve rate. Mobil’s pump prices on Tinian and Rota are usually higher than Saipan rates.
Unleaded gasoline at full- and self-serve gallon rates on Saipan now sells at $3.219 and $$3.049, respectively, while diesel retails at $3.269 and $3.219.
Last Thursday, Shell hiked gas prices by 6 cents per gallon, its second round of fuel price increase this year. Shell had first increased pump prices by 6 cents per gallon effective Jan. 25. Last week’s move pushed up all of Shell’s gallon prices to over $3.
Shell stations on Saipan now retail regular gasoline at $3.049 per gallon at self-serve rate, which used to sell at $2.989, then the only rate below $3 per gallon.
At full-serve rate, the product costs $3.179 per gallon. Premium gasoline retails at $3.339 and $3.219 per gallon at full- and self-serve rates. Shell’s diesel remains at $3.209 per gallon.
During the last quarter of 2005, Shell implemented three price rollbacks. However, Shell increased pump rates by at least 12 times in 2005 for a cumulative gallon price adjustment of up to 67 cents.
The price hikes last year—and the rollbacks—resulted in a net gallon price increase of 43 cents for premium gas, 37 cents for regular gas, and 40 cents for diesel.
