Sure Shots, Fotten Gaga II take command
One team reclaimed the lead while another maintained its lofty perch atop the standings as action in the Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League resumed in various sports bars and watering holes on Saipan Tuesday night.
Da Place Sure Shots made mincemeat of Round Two Hustlers in a match-up of the Top 2 teams in the Tapochao Division at Round Two Bar and Grill.
Hustlers, which took the lead from early pacesetter Sure Shots several weeks ago, succumbed to an aggressive team backstopped by Jojo Talibong and Senen Pangilinan, 5-1, to drop two games behind Sure Shots in the standings, 19-11 to 17-13.
Round Two only prevented a shutout when Mario Diola bailed them out in the fourth singles game, winning over Luis Fajardo.
Da Place players earning wins were Talibong, Pangilinan, and Roman Rodriguez, and the doubles teams of Pangilinan and R.J. Mascarinas and Talibong and Rodriguez.
USSP Dreams, meanwhile, gained ground and caught Hustlers following its 4-2 triumph over sister team USSP Fotten Palau at the USS Peleliu Club.
The win upped Dreams’ record to 17-13, while the loss drove Fotten Palau further down the cellar with a paltry 7-23 win-loss mark.
Blowing great guns for Dreams were Rodel Dela Cruz, Rick Elefante, Edward Armia, and the doubles partnership of Marvin Cabo and Jaypee Jose.
Over in the Banzai Division, VFW Fotten Gaga II solidified its grip of first place after wiping the floor with Wild Wild West, 5-1, at their home digs at VFW Post 3457.
Fotten Gaga II improved to 19-11, while Wild Wild West dropped to 17-13, in a tie with Godfather’s What Doin’, a 4-2 winner over Vargas Hotshots (11-19) at Jonny’s Sports Bar.
In the only other match-up in the B division, Jewel Night Shooters leveled its record to 15-15 after taking care of VFW Pool Warriors (11-19) at Club Jewel. The score was 5-1 in favor of Jewel Night Shooters.
