NMC invites all to Charter Day celebrations
The CNMI community is invited to join students and employees of the Northern Marianas College in celebrating the Commonwealth’s only tertiary school’s 25th anniversary today and tomorrow night, from 5pm to 11pm at its Saipan campus.
NMC president Tony Deleon Guerrero said the entire college would appreciate the participation of the community in this institutional celebration, dubbed as NMC’s gift to the public.
“NMC’s Charter Day marks the time in 1981 when Gov. Carlos Camacho created the college by Executive Order and the festivities this weekend are our way of celebrating and commemorating that event while showing our appreciation to the CNMI community for the support we have received,” Deleon Guerrero said.
The president said this year’s Charter Day Festivities at the Southfield near the college community gymnasium would feature a wide array of food and beverage booths, with different cultural cuisines and a myriad of musical bands, contests, exhibitions, and entertaining performances.
Tonight’s festivities include a performance by Jerry Maglonzo, the Battle of the Bands IV, the Marianas Idol 3 semi-finals, two sets by Guam’s reggae band Soul Vibrations, and the songs and dances of Alanai’a.
Saturday’s performances will open with the Upward Bound Dancers, followed by Trench Tech, the Refaluwasch Warriors, Kaliko and Larry Lee, and the Miss Pugua 5 Contest. Then will come the Marianas Idol 3 finals, and a specially packaged X-Box 360 giveaway raffle, after which Guam’s D.U.B. band will entertain the crowd for a couple of hours.
“Our 2006 Charter Day Planning Committee members and co-chairs, Edwin Propst and Raaj Kurapati, have worked hard to make this Charter Day one to remember, so I hope everyone will come and celebrate NMC’s 25th Anniversary with us,” Deleon Guerrero said.
“The party of the year is finally here and we invite everyone to join our NMC family this weekend and enjoy the entertainment line-up our committee has arranged,” added Propst.
