Christian churches ready for Easter celebration
Different Christian churches on island are now getting ready for the Easter week celebrations, including a joint sunrise service on Easter Sunday on Capitol Hill.
Rev. Glenn Jenkins, senior pastor at Saipan Community Church, the oldest Protestant church on Saipan, said yesterday that eight to 10 Christian churches are expected to participate in the sunrise service on Sunday, April 16.
Participants will have a breakfast together after the service.
This sunrise event will be held in the open area formerly occupied by the Public Land Office.
The Christian community commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus during Holy Week, while Easter Sunday is the celebration of His resurrection, giving meaning to the Christian faith, said Jenkins.
SCC has two services
The Saipan Community Church will hold a Maundy Thursday joint service on April 13 at 7pm.
This is in remembrance of the last supper that Jesus shared with his disciples before his death over 2000 years ago.
Jenkins said people attending the church’s five different Sunday services—English, Palauan, Chuukese, Kosrae, and Tagalog—will all be joining the Thursday evening service.
“We invite everyone to come to these joint services. This is open to the public,” said Jenkins.
SCC, which was founded in 1947, is located along Beach Road in Susupe.
Life in the Son
Other churches in the CNMI will also hold their own Easter Sunday celebrations.
Life in the Son Christian Fellowship said it is scheduled to hold a sunrise service on April 16, from 6am to 8am, in its worship center on Middle Road.
“It’s an exciting sunrise event as we remember the resurrection of Christ, who died to give us salvation and life,” Pastor Alex Lorzano said.
He said the event includes a church breakfast and some fun-filled activities for children after service.
