House cites NMC in Charter Day resolution
The House of Representatives joined Northern Marianas College on Friday in commemorating NMC’s 25th anniversary and fourth annual Charter Day celebration.
The House adopted a resolution recognizing the college’s contributions to the local community.
“The Northern Marianas College is a rich and expansive community resource for adult, continuing and higher education, and it plays an ever-increasing role in improving the quality of life in the Commonwealth as well as positively impacting economic development through addressing the training and education needs of our most vital, valuable, enduring and treasured resource—our people,” reads a portion of House Resolution 15-43.
The lawmakers noted that, in addition to providing regular post-secondary programs, NMC serves the community through a variety of outreach programs.
These include providing workforce and community development programs; extending research and technical assistance to farmers and the local business sector; facilitating opportunities for academic and career education and training in collaboration with off-island tertiary institutions, professional groups, and federal programs; and operating the only public radio station in the islands.
Today, NMC offers 19 associate degree programs, 18 certificate of achievement programs, 17 certificate of completion programs, and a bachelor’s degree in education.
Over 20,000 people have enrolled at NMC in regular academic and certificate classes since NMC was founded in 1981.
