After trailing through the first two innings, the Blue Jays wailed on the weary Warriors with a pair of offensive explosions at Municipal Field on Thursday night to lead them to a 24-6 victory in continuation of the Tinian Little League Baseball Association’s Senior League.

The Blue Jays took advantage of the Warriors’ pitching woes by scoring 13 of their 15 walked batters to supplement their 12 hits at the plate. The Warriors didn’t help their cause any by hitting two of the Jays’ hitters—both of whom eventually scored as well.

Third baseman Keli Mangloña went 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs batted in, while catcher Mario Cruz went 3-for-4 on the night for the Blue Jays.

After scoring a run in the top of the first, the Jays found themselves in the hole as the Warriors answered with three in the bottom of the inning. The Blue crew chipped away with another run in the second inning but went off in the third with a nine-run smack fest that put them ahead 11-3, and gave them control of game for good.

Despite the commanding lead, the Blue Jays didn’t let up, as they pounded out another 11 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 22-3 lead which effectively ended all hopes of a Warriors comeback.

By the end of the fifth, the umpires had finally seen enough and invoked the 10-run mercy rule to send everyone home early—some happier than others.
