China, the world largest outbound tourist market, continues to be one of the Marianas Visitors Authority’s target markets for the CNMI. This past week, the MVA was in Shanghai, promoting the destination to both the travel trade and consumers.

The MVA, through its office in Shanghai, participated in a variety of public relations activities, from hosting a media conference reaching out to the travel trade and consumers, to attending the Shanghai World Travel Fair, highlighting the CNMI’s attractions.

During the press conference, media from World Traveller, Travel Times, The Travel Channel (a satellite TV station) were shown current amenities and products the CNMI provides the Chinese travelers.

“This was another opportunity for the CNMI to showcase the CNMI as a preferred destination for the Chinese outbound travelers. Since China outbound travel continues to grow, the CNMI is looking at growing our share of this market,” said Wayne Pangelinan, marketing manager for the MVA. “The MVA is expected to receive publicity amounting over $220,000 during its presence at this year’s event.”

The “Approved Destination” status from the Chinese government is granted to over 80 countries, most of which attended the World Travel Fair. The MVA, together with the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, Century Tours, and Saipan World Resort, presented the islands’ products and amenities at this travel fair. Other MVA members provided MVA with collaterals that were distributed to passersby at the fair and at the press conference. (PR)
