Committee donates fax machine to WSR dep’t
Smiling children and alert teachers filled the hallways of William S. Reyes Elementary School on Monday morning as the Northern Mariana Islands Occupational Information Coordinating Committee staff made their way through the campus to deliver its donation to the school’s counseling and guidance department.
The donation included an HP Officejet 5610 all-in-one fax machine (printer, copier, and scanner), an Iomega Portable Hard Drive, and a Simpletech USB 2.0 Flash Drive (256MB).
The donation came about after school counselor Rebecca Flores, with the full support of the school’s administration, prepared a project proposal late last year entitled “Supporting the WSR Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program” for the specific items to be funded by a grant made possible through the Northern Mariana Islands Occupational Information Coordinating Committee Office.
The items were donated to offer support for WSR.’s counseling programs conducted by Flores, in which she says accommodates over 600 students.
These items will reportedly be used for better communication with other schools and associated organizations, as well as to preserve confidentiality, which is an important part of a school counselor’s profession.
Flores expressed her appreciation for the donation, saying, “It will also benefit the school [as] there is currently only one fax machine for the entire school, which certainly does not accommodate the needs of the school. This new all-in-one fax machine will also be made available for other school programs to utilize.”
“Now I no longer have to wait in line,” she jestingly added.
The mission of the Northern Mariana Islands Occupational Information Coordinating Committee is to promote improved career decision-making among individuals in the CNMI by providing useful and updated career and occupational information to the public and to support the school counseling and career guidance programs.
Besides Flores, others present to receive the donation was school principal Alfred Ada, vice principal Lynette Villagomez, Kindergarten teacher Cecily Iquin, and 2nd grade teachers Junie Aldan and Victor Cabrera. (PR)
