Lecture highlights leadership and effective communication

Human resource managers received a lecture yesterday on leadership, effective communication, and telephone etiquette.

Human resource managers received a lecture yesterday on leadership, effective communication, and telephone etiquette.

Peter Eche, the governor’s special adviser for training, was the guest speaker at the Society of Human Resource Management’s Administrative Professionals Day meeting.

“Stop managing people like livestock and begin leading them as people,” Eche told the SHRM members.

He also listed the characteristics of a great leader. He cited uncompromising integrity, absence of pettiness, ability to work on things by priority, courage, commitment, infectious enthusiasm, level-headedness in times of crises, and desire to help others grow.

“A good leader should inspire, not simply impress people. When people are impressed, they say ‘great job.’ But when people are inspired, they want to do things as well as their leader does,” he said.

Eche has been conducting customized management programs for various government agencies and business organizations.

He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in pharmacy and a doctor’s degree in management. He is the author of The Young Shall Grow, and is currently working on a new book, Evolution of Success.

Eche is the executive vice president of John F. Kennedy Center in the Philippines. He also established Legacy Institute, and now the World Pacific Center in the Northern Marianas.
