Camacho Mc-clobbers Masters, 8-5
McGregory Camacho went eight strong innings on the mound and nearly finished the game as the Northern Yankees cruised to an 8-5 win over the Masters in continuation of the Budweiser Saipan Major League on Saturday afternoon at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Camacho was a menace on the mound, as he gave up just four hits and fanned nine in all but the final inning when Sidney Camacho took the hill to close out the contest. The Cam-clan combined for a quality outing but let the Masters creep back into the contest with a late game surge.
The Masters rally wasn’t enough however as the Yankees built up a 7-0 through seven innings to allow the pinstripers to hold off the cagey veterans at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Left fielder Jess Jones had a lot to do with the outstanding offense as he connected in each of his four attempts at the plate to finish with three singles and a double, but first baseman Pat Camacho drove in a pair of runners despite a disappointing 1-for-4 performance.
Spry shortstopper John M. Reyes went 1-for-3 and hit a two bagger while centerfielder Clifton Silil went 2-for-4 with a pair of base knocks and two stolen bags for the Yankees.
The Northern boys took a 2-0 lead to start the game when Silil and Ben Jones scored in the bottom of the first, and warmed up the plate again in the third when Pat Camacho drove Reyes home for a 3-0 lead.
Camacho’s shot started a six inning string in which the Yankees scores one run per at bat, and gave them a commanding 7-0 lead before their McPitcher began to tire in the top of the eighth. After giving up a pair of runs, the Yanks decided to pull their starter in favor of Sidney Camacho, but the reliever faltered a bit as the Masters led off with a double and scored three runs thanks to a pair of wild pitches and walks.
The rally never made it any further as the Yanks rallied their defense to get El Sid out of the jam and earned another win en route toward their hopes of the snatching the pennant.
