Fotten Gaga II wins Banzai Division
VFW Fotten Gaga II routed Wild Wild West and then held off rampaging Godfather’s What Doin’ to win the Banzai Division of the Budweiser SBA Open 8-Ball League Tuesday night.
Going up against erstwhile co-leader Wild Wild West on hostile ground at Wild Bill’s, Fotten Gaga II rose to the challenge and won five straight games after losing the opening singles.
After Simon Kapileo put Wild Wild West on the board, Ron Chisato, Bern Ikeda, Gary Chisato, and the doubles pairs of Marvin Buelechong and Edward Suzuki and Ikeda and Gary Chisato wiped the floor with Wild Bill’s players as Fotten Gaga II finished the season with a win-loss mark of 38-22.
The 5-1 rout proved to be just what the doctor prescribed, as anything less would’ve allowed What Doin’ to sneak in to either win the championship or at least force a tie for the title.
The Godfather’s team did what it could possibly do under the circumstances, as it applied the sweep on Vargas Hot Shots, 6-0, to wound up a game back of Fotten Gaga II at 37-23.
To the last man—Dave Palacios, Diamond Aldan, Sam Babauta, Tony Arriola, and Karl Reyes—What Doin’ did all the right moves at Godfather’s Bar only to see its perfect night come short, as Fotten Gaga II took care of business.
The same cannot be said of Wild Wild West though, as the darkhorse team unraveled in the biggest game of the season and finished in third place with a 34-26 slate.
After Kapileo beat Suzuki to start the game, Wild Wild West went downhill, as Nong Detdon, Mike Rowell, and Jesse Pangelinan all lost their singles matches and the tandems of Rowell and Noi Blake and Mongkhon At Suriya and Ning Copeland succumbed in the doubles.
Pangelinan’s match against Fotten Gaga II’s Gary Chisato proved to be the turning point, as the latter was ahead in the match until he failed to call his shot, which resulted in the former getting back control of the table and eventually winning the match.
Jewel Night Shooters came in fourth for the season with a 30-30 record after yet another .500 performance against VFW Warriors at VFW Post 3457. By forcing a 3-3 tie with Jewel Nigh Shooters, the Warriors avoided the cellar and finished with an 18-36 record.
The distinction of finishing in last place belongs to Vargas Hot Shots, which completed the tournament with a sorry 17-37 mark.
Over in the Tapochao Division, Da Place Sure Shots continue to lead the competition after exacting a 5-1 defeat on USSP Dreams at the Da Place Sure Shots.
At 43-17, Sure Shots lead rival Round Two Hustlers by three games even after the former swept USSP Fotten Palau, 6-0, at USS Peleliu Club to raise its record to 40-20.
Sister teams Dreams and Fotten Palau are third and fourth in the standings with 23-37 and 14-46 records, respectively.
