The Superior Court has imposed a three-day jail sentence on a 42-year-old man convicted for possession of methamphetamine or “ice”.

Associate Judge David Wiseman sentenced Joaquin Sablan Reyes to five years in prison, all suspended except three days.

Following a plea agreement, Wiseman gave Reyes credit for the three days he already served in jail.

Wiseman placed the defendant on five years of probation and ordered him to pay a $2,000 fine, $150 in court assessment fee, plus probation fee.

During the probationary period, Reyes is required to perform 150 hours of community work service and undergo counseling evaluation with the Community Guidance Center.

The prosecution and the defense both asserted that Reyes has prior clean criminal record and has been successfully participating in a drug counseling and treatment plan.

In Oct. 2005, the Attorney General’s Office filed information charging Reyes with two counts of trafficking of a controlled substance for selling “ice” on April 30 and May 11, 2005.

On May 3, 2006, the AGO filed an amended information charging the defendant with two counts of possession of controlled substance when he was found carrying “ice” on April 30 and May 11, 2005.

Reyes signed a plea agreement with the AGO. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance. (Ferdie de la Torre)
