Rota student wins BEH poster contest
The CNMI Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Environmental Health office recently recognized the 1st to 6th grade students and their respective schools for participating in the 1st annual food safety “Five Keys” poster contest.
The winners were:
* 1st place winner: Benikina A Lizama (Eskuelan San Francisco De Borja, 2nd grade)
* 2nd place winner: Angelina Mamaril (Saipan Grace Christian Academy, 5th grade)
* 3rd place winner: Maria Lourdes S. Pobeda (Eskuelan San Francisco De Borja, 4th grade)
Participating schools from Saipan were the Grace Christian Academy, Kagman Elementary School and Golden Harvest International. From Rota, participating schools were the Eskuelan San Francisco De Borja, Grace Christian Academy and Sinapalo Elementary School.
The poster contest was intended to promote the five keys to safer foods: temperature control; keeping food in proper temperature; keeping clean; promoting frequent cleaning/washing hands when handling food, separating raw food from cooked food; cooking food thoroughly; using safe water and wholesome raw food.
This is a regional contest for the North Pacific Island nations/countries, members of the Northern Pacific Environmental Health Association, namely Guam, FSM states, Palau, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati and the CNMI. The contest was initiated in early February this year amongst 1st to 6th graders in the public and private school on the three islands.
