Car sales down 30 percent

Total auto sales in the CNMI dropped by 30 percent as of last month, bringing the total number units sold to 497 compared with the 706 posted last year.

Latest statistics from the Commonwealth Auto Dealer’s Association said that for the month of May this year, local dealers sold only 94 vehicles, a 15.3-percent decline from May 2005.

Microl Corp. led the industry with 40 cars sold last month, representing 42 percent of the local market.

Triple J sold 33 cars, which represents 35 percent of the total market share, while Joeten Motors sold 21 cars, cornering 22 percent of the market.

On a yearly basis, Microl leads with 97 sold units, followed by Joeten with 82, and Triple J with 73.

In terms of brands, CNMI motorists continue to favor Toyota, Honda, and Mazda.

Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet while Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, and Kia.

Triple J Motors sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki, Subaru, and Mazda.
