3 local students off to summer study in states
Three students participating in the Northern Marianas College’s Upward Bound Program have been selected to attend summer programs in two U.S. post-secondary institutions.
Richille Denora, a sophomore at Saipan Southern High School will attend the the 2006 Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Math & Science Summer Program from June 17, 2006 to July 27, 2006.
Daisy Rojo, a junior at Marianas High School, and Jolyn Caoleng, a junior at Saipan Southern High School, were selected to attend the four-week Math & Science Summer Program Level I program offered by the Monterey Peninsula College. The 2006 summer program will be held from June 30, 2006 to July 30, 2006 on the campus of the University of California at Santa Cruz.
According to NMC, Denora and other participants from different schools nationwide will experience living in a college environment, attend career awareness seminars, and take various classes during the summer program. In addition, they will partake in a math or science related research project supervised by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University faculty.
Likewise, Rojo and Caoleng immerse in a college environment and participate in a math and science study program. Workshops, lectures, counseling, and enrichment activities will be conducted to enhance learning.
The three students are part of NMC’s Upward Bound Program, a federally funded program intended to prepare and motivate qualified high school students for post secondary education.
