Sure Shots maintain six-game lead
Frontrunner Da Place Sure Shots maintained its six-game lead atop the standings of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League after another solid performance Tuesday night at Da Place Bar.
Both Sure Shots and sister-team Hustlers recorded identical results that evening, with both teams winning six of their seven matches.
Up against Wild Wild West, the Sure Shots’ cue artists went on a winning run early in the contest, racking up four consecutive victories in the singles competition. Wild Wild West finally got on the board by taking the final singles match, but Sure Shots recovered quickly and swept the doubles bouts to close strong.
For their part, the Hustlers were in enemy territory as they battled Godfather’s What Doin’, but nonetheless, still performed up to expectations by sweeping all five singles matches and taking one of the two doubles match.
With that, the Sure Shots players improved their win-loss card to a league-best 97-22, while the Hustlers kept pace and now sit with a 91-28 record.
Meanwhile, the third place VFW Warriors cruised against Porky’s Nightbangers at their home turf. The Warriors received little resistance throughout the entire evening en route to sweeping all the matches for the 7-0 shutout to improve to 75-43 for the season.
Fourth place USSP Fotten Palau had an easy evening as well, but the team’s members didn’t even have to break a sweat. Up against sister-team Los Cabos, Fotten Palau easily picked up a 7-0 shut out to improve to 68-51 after Los Cabos once again forfeited.
The toughest battle of the evening happened at Ysabel’s in San Jose as the home team, Bull-Sig, managed to edge Vargas Hotshots by taking four of the seven matches.
The two teams split the first two matches, and Ysabel’s crew followed by grabbing favor after taking the next two matches for a 3-1 advantage. The Hotshots, however, regrouped and took the final singles match, then won the first doubles match before Bull-Sig took the last match of the evening.
Bull-Sig currently sits in fifth place with a 58-61 record, while the Hotshots are in eighth place, sporting a 50-68 card.
