GUAM—The Guam Youth Football League will be suiting up today with the help of the Guam Greyhound Park during the upcoming 2006 season. These gridiron heroes will hit the field with the backing of $10,000 to ensure they get the goods they need to get into the endzone.

“There’s no better feeling than to engage in your favorite sport with the right equipment, facility and supplies,” says John Baldwin, owner of Guam Greyhound. “It just makes the game that much more enjoyable for both the athlete and the fan.”

The $10,000 donation will be presented on opening day today, with Steve Phillips, president of the GYFL, on hand to receive the check, which will be presented by Baldwin and Benson Ko, to benefit more than 100 boys and girls, ages 6-16.

Guam Greyhound is sponsoring the entire league, which has four teams in each of four divisions: the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, and Giants.

Games begin tomorrow, Oct. 22, and will be played weekly from then on through January.

Guam Greyhound Park said it has been a major contributor to the community for the past 30 years. “Events such as benefit concerts, weddings, and a variety of fundraising efforts and ceremonies have been hosted there and proved successful. Guam Greyhound Park has and continues to sponsor many youth and adult sports teams,” according to a company statement.

Baldwin was described as “enthusiastic about continuing this tradition which contributes immensely to the growth and development of Guam in a positive way.” (PR)
