Acting Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez has named a long serving forestry technician to head the forestry section of the Department of Lands and Natural Resources.

Victorino Deleon Guerrero was appointed to serve as the CNMI forester effective on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006.

The appointment is not subject to Senate confirmation.

Deleon Guerrero replaced Manny Pangelinan, who will now focus on his other task as administrative officer for DLNR Secretary Ignacio T. Dela Cruz.

Isidoro Cabrera, agriculture consultant for the Northern Marianas College’s Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service, said Deleon Guerrero has been with DLNR’s agriculture division for about 10 years.

“I deal with him a lot because NMC-CREES and Forestry have a lot of joint projects. He is hardworking, knowledgeable and energetic. I’m sure that he is going to do a good job. I am happy to hear about his appointment,” Cabrera said.

The Forestry Unit is in the forefront of the government’s replanting initiative.

In related news, Villagomez reappointed Michael H. San Nicolas to serve as a member of the CNMI Board of Parole. San Nicolas represents Tinian.

“Kindly extend your full cooperation and support to this new appointee, so that he may capably assume his responsibilities under my office,” Villagomez asked department heads in a memorandum.
