Veteran golfer Ray San Nicolas could not be much happier last Sunday, Oct. 22, when he was announced the Saipan Golf Association’s October Ace.

Sporting a 10 handicap, gross score 82, and a bogey at the lowest handicap hole No. 15, San Nicolas triumphed in the ace after tie-breaking new member Kenny Lee’s double on the same hole. Lee settled for second place.

Winning third place was June Ace Ed Sablan, who outscored non-Ace Larry Guerrero with a 17 handicap and gross 90. Sablan clinched it by doubling hole No. 15 against Guerrero’s triple. Guerrero scored 89 gross and a net 73.

In the closest to the pins competition, Ray Salas ruled hole No. 3, SGA treasurer Joe Sablan captured the up-slope, 185-yard hole No. 7, and SGA secretary Larry Guerrero pinned hole No. 13. Retired judge Ed Manibusan closed in the down-slope and 195-yard hole No. 17.

Glass master Rick “Hafa Dude” Kautz only utilized a 4-iron and out-distanced 22 members on hole No. 14, clinching the lone “longest drive” competition.

The Top 7 lowest gross scores of the day and its recipients were Manibusan (76), Kautz, (81), San Nicolas (82), Mel Sablan (85), Steve Ballakrisna (87), and Larry and Tony Guerrero (89). (PR)
