A second batch of government cars is set to be auctioned off this November.

At least 18 vehicles have already been submitted to the Division of Procurement and Supply for the sale. More agencies, including the Department of Commerce and the Attorney General’s Office, are conducting a vehicle inventory to identify cars that can be placed for bid.

The government’s first car sale was held on Aug. 11, 2006. Twenty-one vehicles were sold for a total of $18,772.

The three cars that were not bought during the first auction will be part of the second sale, tentatively set for next Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.

These cars are a 2001 Hyundai Sonata sedan, with the bid starting at $6,045; a 2000 Ford Focus sedan, at $3,390; and a 1997 Hyundai Sonata sedan at $2,335.

“There were some delays [to the second auction], but we’re persisting. We need to do this to generate a little bit of cash and to curtail fuel and maintenance expenses,” said press secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr.

The auction includes all government cars that were bought with local funds.

All government vehicles that were acquired using federal funds or grants are excluded, as well as those vehicles owned or leased by the Legislature, the Judiciary, autonomous agencies, and public corporations. Police cars, ambulances and other vehicles needed to provide essential services are also excluded.
