The opening date for the Inaugural HANMI Cup-Inter Hotel Basketball League has been moved from Nov. 21 to Nov. 26 to give participating hotels more time to organize and prepare their teams for the competition.

The 2006-2007 season will be ushered by a lone game beginning at 3pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. There will be a drawing of lots to determine which two among the so far eight teams that have signed up will square off in the opener.

After the game, a barbecue party will be held at the Minatchom Atdao Pavillion across the Oleai Sports Complex.

As of Nov. 1, eight teams have already confirmed their participation for the HANMI Cup, namely Aqua Resort Club, Fiesta Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Marianas Resort and Spa, Pacific Islands Club, Saipan Grand Hotel, Saipan Nikko Hotel, and Saipan World Resort.

The Inaugural HANMI Cup, organized by the Northern Marianas Bartenders Association with endorsement from the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, is expected to last three months with the champion crowned by early next year.

The champion team will be getting two pieces of hardware—a perpetual cup that will be passed to the reigning champion and a yearly trophy that the title team gets to keep.

In related news, the next organizational meeting will be held this coming Tuesday, Nov. 7, 1pm at Fiesta Resort and Spa. Another organizational meeting will be held a week later, Nov. 14, at 1pm at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
