UFO, consulate offer aid to rape victim
The United Filipino Organization is trying to locate a Filipino woman who was allegedly raped in her workplace in Kagman this week.
“I’ve been asking around to find her. I was informed that she’s Filipina so we’d like to extend help in any way possible,” said UFO co-chair Ed Reyes in an interview yesterday.
He said the Philippine Labor Representative Office on Saipan has also expressed concern over the issue.
The Labor Office documents cases involving Filipino workers in the CNMI.
Reyes said neither his group nor the Labor Office has information as to the identity of the alleged rape victim or her employer.
Police reports said that the woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint inside her residence in Kagman early Tuesday morning.
The victim, a 27-year-old woman, believed to be a houseworker was reportedly taken to the Commonwealth Health Center for medical examination.
Police said the victim described the suspect as a young local or Micronesian who was wearing a brown shirt, blue jean shorts, and had white gloves.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect broke into the residence and entered the victim’s room, threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.
The victim then fled on foot.
