The Saipan Golf Association celebrated Thanksgiving a bit early as they feasted on plump and juicy turkey, ham, sauce, mashed potato, and the works, Sunday, Nov. 12, held immediately after their November Ace and Turkey Shootout held at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort east course.

SGA’s lone female member and August Ace, Frances Sablan, was all smiles as she was announced the first place winner of the tournament. With her 91 gross, 48 front and 43 at the back, Sablan broke SGA’s low net record of 62. She broke the record with her superb 60 net, crushing Nunni Cruz’s 62.

Just and rightfully so, Sablan and Ed went home with the largest cash and turkey.

Lefty and returning from a tour in Iraq (not a golf tour, however), Bob Magofna, grabbed the ace from Frances Sablan, as she is already an ace.

Controlling his game, Magofna secured the title with a 41 front, back 44, gross 85 and net a 66. He took home the November ace title, cash and a turkey.

Firing a superb 42 front and back, gross 84 and a net 67, Larry Guerrero settled for third place. He received the last cash prize and a turkey.
The 4th and 5th place turkey prizes had to be settled on a scorecard tiebreak. April and September Aces Nunni Cruz and Rene Battalones respectively tied at net 69.

But Batallones outscored Cruz in hole No. 7, thus allowing him to receive a bigger turkey than Cruz’s.

The outcome did not bother Cruz at all, as he claimed another turkey prize at the closest to the pin competition.
Cruz bested 23 other golfers on hole No. 15, Par 3. Jess Castro claimed Par 3, hole No. 4. Steve Balakhrisna ruined Guerrero’s claim on hole No. 6. The 185-yard hole No. 11 was won by senior golfer Art Guerrero.

In the longest drive competition, retired judge Ed Manibusan triumphed the dog-left, Par 5 hole No. 3, while his compaire “hafa dude” Rick Kautz outdrove Batallones at the lowest handicap hole, Par 4-hole No. 7.

The SGA informs its members that the December Ace is slated for Nov. 26 at the Marianas Country Club.

The Ace of Aces is a two-day event to be held on Dec. 9 and 10 at the Kingfisher Golf Links and Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course, respectively.

Election of officers will be held after the Dec. 10 event. Show-up, tee-off time, and the Christmas party date will be announced later. (PR)
