Kraken, Dingleberries still perfect at PIC
The top two teams of the Blue Division continued their dominance at the Pacific Islands Club on Tuesday night as Kraken and Dingleberries improved to 6-0 atop the 8th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Volleyball League standings.
Captain Scott Eck’s Kraken swept the students of Grace Christian Academy, while Taula Peter’s Dingleberries had a firm grip on each set to broom third place contender Luther’s Ride.
Kraken opened with an 11-2 win to open their contest with the Eagles and clinched victory with an 11-1 win in the second set before taking the third, 11-7. Though undefeated, Kraken is still in second place because Peter’s Dingleberries surrendered fewer points during the season.
They didn’t give up many in the opener against the talented bunch of players captained by youngster Luther Taylor, as Dingleberries took the first set, 11-2. The midway set was the closest of the three, but Peter’s crew emerged with the overall victory after defeating Luther’s Ride, 11-6 in the clincher before completing the sweep with an 11-4 win in the finale.
First place in the Blue Division will be determined tonight as Kraken and Dingleberries square off in their final games of the season at 7:30pm. Both teams have already earned post-season slots but not all of the playoff jockeying is completed.
At 4-2, Luther’s Ride is in whether or not they lose to GCA tonight at 6:30pm because they hold tiebreaker advantages over Somethin’ Fishy and Dolphins-Just Wanna Have Fun—both of whom have 3-3 records.
Both teams also scored victories Tuesday night to even their records as Noke Rogopes’ Fishy bunch took two of three sets from the Kawawang Dolphins (11-2, 3-11, 11-1), while coach Tyce Mister’s Dolphins-Just Wanna Have Fun handed Afternoon Delight its sixth loss of the season with bookend wins (11-6, 10-12, 11-4).
The action continues at 5:30pm when Somethin’ Fishy and Dolphins-Just Wanna Have Fun square off for the fourth and final Blue Division playoff slot, and the lowlight of the night takes place in the finale when the Kawawang Dolphins face Afternoon Delight in the battle of winless wonders at 8:30pm.
