Jack Q.—again

It truly saddens me to see Jack T. Quitugua go from helpful, then constructive criticism, to frustrated, and now head-banging desperation—all in the course of a decade in writing letters to the editor. But using words like “crap”? My, my. Can the “F” word be far behind?

It’s an open book that higher wages for our community has been an overriding question, and the lobbying effort during the GOP-dominated U.S. government to prevent federalization of the CNMI’s labor and immigration was successful, many years before Jack Q. came to our shores. And certainly, in hindsight, it’s no secret errors have been made and crimes have been committed during that period.

What’s the point? That’s (politics) life, people make mistakes and indeed, times change. Where to we go from here? We correct that which needs correction. And this includes working with the present Democrat-controlled Congress. Jack Q. can never forgive, and chooses to heap blame on our current government. And to insinuate that his mighty letters to editor will correct the ills that have affected our community is, in his own words, “hogwash” and smacks of grandstanding. After two failed attempts at public office, I can understand why.

Another thing that sticks in Jack Q’s craw: “rubber-stamping” legislators to the new Fitial administration, and the “better times” is now “worse times”. That’s (again his words) “crap.” The Republican (Territorial) Party originated rubber-stamping 30 years ago with the first legislature and has continued to do so ever since dominating local politics. Having said that, I would like for once to read a letter to the editor by Jack Q that he acknowledges every single woe that now besets our community—the “worse times” he is so fond of reciting and which governor Fitial shall soon correct—is the direct fault of the local GOP. But he won’t.

I am glad Jack Q found solace in Vancouver, Washington, for whatever reason that compelled him to flee from our shores. His rhetoric remains unchanged, as with his compulsion for the local Republicans to win next year’s midterm election. It’s quite obvious Jack Q is not a student of local political history, cause and effect and why the CNMI is suffering today.
