Legislature takes marathon game from DCCA II
Eleven innings after underhanded artists from the Legislature and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs took the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa field, the Capitol Hill gang emerged with a 17-14 victory in the continuation of the Inter-Government Slow-Pitch Softball League.
There were six lead changes and 50 hits as a routine hour-long game went deep into the night, and it could have been longer as DCCA II left a pair of runners on base in their last at bats.
Despite losing the game, centerfielder Asterio Tawanpiy went 3-for-4 with a pair of base hits, a double, and two runs batted in for DCCA II, while teammate Joe Mettao went 2-for-5 with a single and an RBI triple.
No Zone 15, DOL 4Two games into their season and there’s no stopping No Zone, as the enforcement experts dropped the Department of Labor, 15-4, just four and a half innings into the contest.
First baseman Joe Guerrero went 2-for-2 on the night and drove in three runs as No Zone turned a competitive 6-3 game after three and a half innings into a 15-3 laugher in the bottom of the fourth.
The shortest game of the night highlighted No Zone’s dominance as they have scored a total of 38 runs off of 46 hits through a total of nine innings this season as umpires sent teams home early by invoking the 10-run mercy rule.
Customs 14, DEQ 7The people who check your passports doubled up on the people who check soil and water samples as Customs opened up their season with a 14-7 win over the Department of Environmental Quality.
Customs made an impression right from the start as their first batter smacked an inside-the-park homerun—the first of two on the night for the visa inspectors. After scoring three runs in each of the first three innings, Customs cooled off until the top of the sixth when they hammered out five runs to take a commanding 14-3 lead.
