Anthony Mendiola Calvo, more popularly known as AnCa, has released his new Chamorro CD “Islas Natibu” with his title cut “Biba! San Francisco de Borja” dedicated to the story and miracle of Rota’s patron saint, which is song No. 3 in the album. He also printed and sells the lyrics booklet to all the songs separately, which he hopes will help local people learn to read the native language.

AnCa has spent a lot of time and money, and worked very hard in writing the songs, and in recording, design and production of his CD. The CDs and lyrics booklet will make a great Christmas gift and are available for sale at Island Farmers Market, Music And, Kagman Mobil Station, and Kagman Super Discount Store.

AnCa’s hobby is playing guitar and is very passionate about writing and composing songs. He wrote and composed all the 10 songs in his album, which he collected over the last 20 years. Two of his songs are fast and upbeat while the others are sentimental love songs. AnCa dedicates song No. 9 “Sindalu” to all CNMI soldiers currently serving in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, including his own brother Joseph, who is serving in Afghanistan.

“We all hope and pray for their safe return,” he said.

AnCa is a native of Rota and the third oldest son of Isaac Maratita Calvo and Fidelia Taisacan Mendiola. He lives and works for the government in Saipan and is married to Bernie Sablan Guerrero from Saipan and has two sons: Travis and Broc.

“My whole purpose and satisfaction in writing Chamorro songs is expressed in song No. 4, I Natibu, the need for us to sustain our language, culture and tradition. I want to thank everyone involved in the recording, design and production of the CD and lyrics booklet, and to Mr. Edwin Propst from Pacific Digital Media Studio for the high quality digital photo,” AnCa said.

Songs include: 1) Neni Guinaiya-ku, 2) Hagu I Langet, 3) Biba! San Francisco, 4) I Natibu, 5) Kirida Hu, 6) Sin Hagu, 7) Neni, Hagu Neni, 8) Otro Nobiu, 9) Sindalu, and 10) Mañaina Hu. (PR)
