Talavera, Williams are top-ranked bowlers
It’s no surprise that Robert Talavera and Emi Williams sit atop the Bowling Ranking System as the two have produced strong and consistent performances throughout the year.
Talavera currently leads all male bowlers as he has recorded a total of 1,817 points.
Talavera has been making headlines throughout the year, recording a perfect game twice, winning four Pepsi King of the Lanes tournaments, topping the 2006 May Masters Bowling Tournament, claiming the Philippine Bowling Association Bowler of the Year award, and leading several teams to the top in various leagues held at the Saipan Bowling Center and Capital Bowling Center.
Talavera started his year with a bang as he claimed top honors in the January King of the Lanes. He also won the award on May and June, and recently topped the November edition of the monthly event.
Talavera earned 100 points from each of the King victories, added 200 points after winning the Masters competition, and earned another 200 for the PBA Bowler of the Year title. There were also six instances that Talavera added 80 points to his total courtesy of solid performances in SBC and CBC leagues.
Behind Talavera is Richard Leong, who has a total of 1,537 points. The southpaw won the February and September editions of the King of the Lanes, and placed second to Talavera in the push to be PBA Bowler of the Year, which gave him another 180 points.
Currently ranked third is Raul Dumapit with 1,008 points, earning big points after winning the March King of the Lanes, as well as posting an impressive performance in the team competition of the Masters tournament.
Holding the Top 5 standings are No. 4 Edgar Talavera with 941 points and Alex Cacdac with 865 points.
Meanwhile, the Top 10 also includes Arnel Del Rosario with 865 points, Dannie Robles with 818 points, Kitz Barja with 703 points, Paul Pangelinan with 688 points, and Simon Manacop with 675 points.
Others on the outside looking in are No. 11 Rusty Musca (671), No. 12 Jonathan Eparwa (650), No. 13 Raymond Angeles (639), No. 14 Michael Guirey (634), and No. 15 Raymond Zapanta (589).
Meanwhile, Williams leads the women’s rankings with 645 pins.
Williams recently won the Queen of the Lanes twice this year, taking top honors in April and most recently last Monday in the November competition. She also placed second in the February and May competitions, and took third in the March competition.
Right behind Williams is Ron Cal with 532 points, who won the February, March, and June Queen of the Lanes titles.
Gloria Omechelang currently ranks third with 445 points, while Marie Manansala and Yolanda Villavicencio are ranked fourth and fifth with 384 and 356 points.
The Top 10 also includes Jerilyn Teregeyo with 307 points, Sophie Fejeran with 301 points, Gina Sablan with 248 points, Elena Soll with 244 points, and Cora Muna with 235 points.
On the fringes are No. 11 Rizza Hensley (204), No. 12 Diane Camacho (194), No. 13 Mindy Taitano (157), No. 14 Hea Jin Su (140), and No. 15 Mhel Regis (131).
In other bowling news, Tony Cruz was able to win the November Prince of the Lanes competition as he knocked down a total of 807 pins to beat out four other competitors.
Cruz was off a bit in his first game and managed to knock down just 158 pins, but recovered and heated up for 223 pins in his second game. He continued to bowl well and closed his campaign with 232 and 194 pins to average 201.75 pins per game.
J.D. Torres placed second with 644 pins, while Zack Cruz (600), Raphael Zapanta (558), and Carrie Camacho (507) followed.
