Consumers to get same high bill in Jan.
Consumers are expected to get in January the same high power bill they will have in December due to the same electric fuel charge for the two months.
According to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., November’s 20.6 cents per kilowatt-hour of electric rate remains the same for December.
The November and December rates show an increase of $0.012 or 1.2 cents per kWh when compared with the October fuel charge of 19.4 cents per kWh.
The September fuel charge was 21.9 cents per kWh; the August fuel charge was 21.5 cents per kWh.
CUC, in its announcement, explained that the December fuel rate projects increased electric sales for the month, as well as updated fuel-pricing data from Mobil Oil.
This rate, CUC said, includes fuel costs that were under-recovered for the month of September.
The fuel rate in September was not quite sufficient to fully recover the cost of diesel fuel and lubricating oils required during that month.
Using the December fuel rate under the rate scale, residential customers will be charged 22.2 cents for the first 500 kWh; 27.2 cents for the next 500 kWh; 29.2 cents for the succeeding 1,000 kWh; and 33.3 cents for each kWh consumed in excess of 2,000 kWh.
Commercial customers are charged a flat monthly fee of $7.67. Under the December rate, they will be assessed 29.2 cents per kWh.
A flat monthly fee of $7.67 has been applied to government agencies. Their new power rate is 29.7 cents per kWh.
Customers categorized as “non-conforming load” because of their erratic usage are assessed a flat fee of $56 monthly. The new rate will assess them 42.8 cents per kWh. (Ferdie de la Torre)
