Woman’s murder possibly drug-related
Investigators are digging into the possibility that the murder of the woman found dead at Laulau Beach was related to illegal drugs trafficking.
Sources disclosed that the still unidentified woman, believed to be a Chinese, could be a witness to methamphetamine or “ice” trafficking on Saipan.
Sources said a team of police investigators served a search warrant over the weekend to obtain pieces of evidence.
Sources refused to provide details about the search so not to jeopardize ongoing investigations.
Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. refused to comment yesterday whether they indeed conducted a search.
Another source described the case as “very sensitive and scary.”
As of yesterday, Blas said there was still no positive identification of the victim.
Sources earlier said that investigators already have a clue as to the victim’s identity, based on police records.
Two local fishermen found the naked and lifeless body of the woman along the shoreline of Laulau Beach in the afternoon of Nov. 30.
An autopsy determined that there was foul play and that the victim died of asphyxiation by drowning. She reportedly had a distinguishing mark of a red rose tattoo on the left chest. (Ferdie de la Torre)
