Daniel remains undefeated, notches third win
Powerhouse Daniel preserved its unblemished mark in the 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup after fashioning out a come-from-behind 99-78 win over cellar dweller Hoesa last Thursday night at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai.
Daniel got off on the wrong foot, as Hosea hitman Amor Casabuena and Saipan Swim Club standout Juan Camacho punctured the hoop with six points each to help their team take a 17-14 spread after the opening quarter.
Hosea continued with its onslaught in the following quarter, despite the 10 points from Daniel playmaker Rick Alegre.
Four Hosea players logged in four points or more in the quarter, as the team continued to hold favor, 38-32, at the half.
That was as far as Hosea would go though, as Daniel began to wake from its first half slumber with James Abuy and Gyles Ruluked leading the charge.
Abuy rifled away for 10 markers and Ruluked powered his way for 10 more, as Daniel took the lead and began to pull away ahead by 11 points, 63-52, heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Casabuena and James Camacho tried to rally Hosea back in the ballgame in the payoff period by knocking in 11 and eight makers, respectively, but it was not to be as Daniel outscored them 36-26 to cap the 21-point win.
Ruluked and Alegre paced Daniel with 16 points apiece, while Casabuena and James Camacho led the now 0-3 Hosea with 23 and 22.
In the second game, Isaiah improved to 2-1 after getting 23 points from Bernard Aquino in the team’s 85-81 nipping of Samuel (1-1), which was led by the 16 of Wylie Paez.
The 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup resumed last night with Caleb taking on Nehemiah in the first game, while Joshua was scheduled to face Elijah in the second game. Results were still not available as of press time.
