OSHA and CNMI to host conference
U.S. Department of Labor-Occupational Safety and Health Administration Assistant Secretary for Edwin G. Foulke Jr. and U.S. Labor Dept.-OSHA Deputy Assistant Secretary C. Bryan Little met with Richard A. Pierce, Office of the Governor and Chairman of the Northern Marianas Alliance for Safety and Health, and pledged support for the upcoming NMASH Governor’s 4th Annual Health and Safety Conference.
The conference is set for March 2007.
At a Dec. 7, 2006 meeting at U.S. Labor’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., Assistant Secretary Foulke indicated that OSHA Region 9, and temporarily Region 6, Administrator Frank Strasheim will be attending and coordinating with NMASH for the annual safety and health conference where past attendance has registered nearly 350 attendees for training and sessions in workplace safety and health issues.
Foulke also accepted the invitation of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial to attend and keynote the conference with attendance from the CNMI, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau.
OSHA Training Institute trainers will be conducting sessions in general safety, construction safety, environmental health, occupational 1st Aid, while CNMI government offices will be presenting sessions in public safety and regional health concerns.
NMASH was incorporated in 2002 as a non-profit entity, and is comprised of the Region 9 OSHA Administrative Offices, the OSHA Training Institute, the Northern Marianas College, the CNMI Department’s of Public Health, Public Works, Public Safety, Labor, Division of Environmental Quality, the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, Saipan Contractors Association, Saipan Chamber of Commerce and the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association. This year the Korean Garment Manufacturers Association will join NMASH at the conference.
The four-day Governor’s 4th Annual Health and Safety Conference will begin registration and sign-ups when final dates and hotel accommodations are finalized for March. NMC and the business organizations can provide additional information. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
